THE GOLD TRAIL WITH AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE -Tour 82V
Victoria had it's gold rush during the 1850's and many of our towns sprang from the goldfields. Ballarat is a fine example of a town that prospered on gold.
A charming city with origins of gold - enjoy a complete town tour including Lake Wendouree, streets lined with stunning 19th century buildings, exquisite gardens, notable churches and the Eureka Stockade Centre, a state-of-the-art multi-media complex, which brings to life the 1854 miners uprising, where minors took up arms against a corrupt & unjust goldfield administration, a significant event in Australia's history.
Sovereign Hill is an internationally renowned heritage park on the site of the richest alluvial gold rush in the world. You will have time to explore Red Hill Gully diggings, the Gold Museum and the fully operational township. Wander down Main Street, ride a stagecoach, talk to the blacksmith, try some homemade sweets! Devonshire teas are available at the New York Bakery or a good hearty lunch at the United States Hotel (own expense).
The Ballarat Australian Wildlife Park is a high standard fauna reserve which encourages active participation in meeting native animals. A guided tour of the park will introduce you to wombats, koalas, Tasmanian Devils, goannas, lizards, emus, crocodiles and much more. You'll also have the opportunity to hand feed kangaroos.
